Applications are invited from experienced SHOs and Registrars for appointment to the below mentioned vacancy within the GHA. The Gibraltar Health Service is organised and modelled on UK NHS and follows traditions of British medical practice. It is desirable for applicants to be registered with the UK General Medical Council, with a licence to practice or eligible to register. Non-native English speakers must have a good command of English.

The Surgical RMO will work closely with the Surgical & Orthopaedic Consultants and their teams. This will provide exposure to a wide variety of surgical conditions and their treatment, allowing active participation in the operating theatre and clinics.  RMOs form part of a 1:7 resident on-call rota, in cross cover with Orthopaedics and Trauma, Head and Neck, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, General Surgery, Urology, and Vascular. Experience in any of the specialities would be advantageous.

This appointment will be on contract terms for a maximum period of 12 months and may be renewed, conditional on satisfactory completion of the term of service and the circumstances prevailing within the department at the time.

The salary per annum is dependent on years of reckonable service as a Senior House Officer, or equivalent and the salary scale ranges from £63,382 to £88,248.  This is inclusive of a 100% out of hours’ supplement, in respect of a 1:7 resident on-call. Return economy class air-fares from the UK are payable in full. In addition, a rented accommodation allowance of between £800 and £1200, dependant on family composition, is payable, solely whilst on a fixed-term contract and upon submission of an official rental agreement.

Non-EU nationals should note that a Schengen Visa is required in order to be able to transit through Europe. This is obtained from the applicant’s place of residence. Please note that Schengen Visas cannot be obtained through Gibraltar.
